Rumors: 2013 Cadillac ATS Sedan to Receive New 2.0-liter Turbo Engine

For many years, American car buyers adhered to the popular slogan “there’s no replacement for displacement”, but consumer habits are changing and the auto industry is slowly moving away from large and thirsty engines to smaller but equally powerful turbocharged powerplants.

The upcoming 2013 Cadillac ATS, with which General Motors wants to compete directly with the German competition in the premium compact sedan segment, will be one of the latest American models to make use of smaller displacement engines.

Cadillac Challenges Mercedes-Benz by Pitting the Escalade Against the C-Class [Video]

We think most of you will agree with us when we say that, for the same reasons the Cadillac Escalade is extremely profitable, it also doesn't quite fit the brand's current image being sort of a throwback to the glory days of the classic American cruiserships.

But this didn't stop General Motors from raising the ante in yet another provocative commercial for Cadillac that follows the CTS-V spot featuring the Ferrari 458 Italia.

This time, the General took the Escalade and pointed its ammo towards Mercedes-Benz and its C-Class sedan. The video spot shows the big Caddy V8 beating the C300 on a straight line duel, and then…hauling back the Merc.

SCOOP: 2013 Cadillac ATS Hits the Road for Testing

Here's another chance to take a look at the upcoming 2013 Cadillac ATS, GM's answer to the executive compact sedan segment dominated by the likes of BMW's 3-Series, the Audi A4 and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

And just in case you're wondering, the introduction of the ATS will lead to a larger next-generation CTS to better compete against cars like the BMW 5-Series and the latest Lexus GS.

Our scoop photographers captured the 2013 Cadillac ATS while testing in Europe. Even though the prototype is clothed in camouflage, we manage to get a taste of the car's size as well as Cadillac's edgy design language with prominent creases running along sides and the front and rear ends of the ATS.

Video: GM CEO Mark Reuss Drives us Through the 2013 Cadillac ATS

Following Cadillac's unsuccessful efforts to enter the compact luxury sedan segment and challenge Germany's finest including the Audi A4, BMW 3-Series and Mercedes C-Class with the European market BTS that was a basically a Saab 9-3 dressed as a Caddy, General Motors appears to have learned its lesson about cutting corners.

The Detroit carmaker is now developing a brand new competitor for the 3-Series from the ground up based on a rear-wheel drive platform. The entry level Cadillac is codenamed ATS and it is destined to enter production next summer (2012).

General Motors Takes Over Japan's Import Operations

General Motors has announced that it is consolidating imports to Japan, terminating the cooperation with its local partner, Mitsui Bussan. The move, which will go into effect on November 1, is intended to improve GM's image and, more importantly, streamline the sales process.

Since 1992, Mitsui Bussan has imported a total of 12,000 GM models that were mostly sold through its own dealer network, although some were distributed by GM official dealers. Its sales have been falling since 1995.

2010 CADILLAC XTS PLATINUM CONCEPT REVIEW, SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES

Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept was unveiled at the 2010 North American International Auto Show. In all aspects the new Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept is the luxury sedan of the future. It has got a wide range of luxury and technological features, including a plug-in hybrid propulsion system.

The new XTS Platinum is a combination of efficiency, luxury and connectivity. It features a new approach to interior electronics that improves the form and function of the car's entertainment, navigation and information systems.

The Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept is powered by Cadillac's 3.6L V-6 Direct Injection gas engine, paired with a plug-in hybrid system which enables the battery to fully charge from a standard electrical outlet. The plug-in technology thus enables pure electric propulsion in many situations.

The traditional luxury sedans were noted for elegant interiors while the XTS Platinum Concept drives that formula into the future. It brings new approaches to luxury within a design that combines fine craftsmanship with customer-driven improvement. The interior of Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept is based on hand cut-and-sewn materials. In addition it features an attractive interior design, including the use of Organic LED displays in place of traditional guages and screens.

The primary color of the cabin is light cream which is contrasted with darker elements such as steering. Thoughtfully detailed stitching is used throughout the interior, including instrument panel, the seats and door panels. The passengers in the rear compartment of XTS Premium Concept also have access to the car's connectivity feature.

Just like the interior, the exterior elements of Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept are elegantly designed. Brushed billet aluminium trim has been used selectively and the 20-inch 6-spoke wheels feature a brushed aluminum face accented with bright inserts within the spokes. The wheels are wrapped with special Bridgestone tires that were created specifically for the XTS Platinum Concept.

2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid review, specification and stills

2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid review
Cadillac launched the Hybrid 2009 version of their Escalade in International market. The New 2009 Cadillac Escalade, available in two models the base and Platinum Edition, with 6.2-liter V-8 engine, is able to run on E85 ethanol. New Features included for 2009 Escalade Hybrid are an optional side blind-zone alert system, XM satellite radio with NavTraffic, power-tilting steering wheel, and other features.

The Escalade Hybrid is powered by the combination of the 6.0-liter V-8 engine with cylinder-deactivation technology and the patented GM 2-mode hybrid system. The Hybrid can tow up to 5800 pounds in two-wheel drive (2WD) and 5600 pounds in all-wheel drive (AWD).

The 2009 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid, with its Vortec 6.0-liter engine and cylinder-deactivation technology, delivers 332 hp at 5100 rpm and 367 lb.-ft. of torque at 4100 rpm. The engine’s higher gasoline fuel economy is achieved with the Auto Stop mode when the vehicle reaches 0 mph, which allows the SUV to move only under electric power (an energy-saver and emissions-reducer in heavy stop-and-go traffic). The engine is paired with the patented advanced GM 2-mode hybrid technology that consists of an advanced electrically variable transmission, or EVT, and 300-volt nickel-metal hydride Energy Storage System (ESS). Regenerative braking captures energy that would otherwise be lost and converts it to electrical energy stored in the ESS for future use to propel the Escalade. Electrically driven, 42-volt variable-assist power steering also provides up to a 0.5-mpg fuel economy savings while reducing vibration, maker says. EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2009 Escalade Hybrid are 20 mpg city/21 mpg highway in 2WD.
