Bed Time Radio Program

Today's picture is from Pie Town, New Mexico, and was taken about 1940. The mother and daughter are pictured listening to a radio above the bed at bed time. This family was one of the few in the area to have a radio, so they had many evening visitors.

I enjoyed reading the comments yesterday as people reminisced about old times listening to the radio. When I was growing up we barely got any TV reception, but I had an old Short Wave radio that would pick up radio stations all over the world. It was a little tricky to tune, and you often had to slam your hand on the top of it to get it to work. There was a program from Holland that was in English that I liked to listen to on Sunday evening. The radio had vacuum tubes, and would really heat up if you had it on for a while. I don't know if they even make shortwave radios any more.

Welcome to Old Radio Week

Yes, yesterday's mystery person was  Guglielmo Marconi, who is generally remembered as the inventor of the radio and wireless communication. I say "generally remembered" as others could equally lay claim to that distinction. There were many people working on this at the same time, and the actual inventor could be disputed. Certainly Tesla played a large role, and the work in creating a working radio relied on the theoretical and practical work of innovators going back at least a hundred years.

Today's picture is from 1940, and shows a father and his daughter listening to an old radio. The picture was taken in California.

Roll like an F1 Champ with Schumacher's Scuderia Ferrari Motorhome

Vehicle auctions usually make headlines for automobiles sold for ridiculous amounts of money, for being very rare or very famous. At the very least, they must have been owned at some point by a rock star, an F1 driver or some other kind of celebrity in order to attract attention.

Can you imagine a bus making it in that list? Probably not unless of course, we’re talking about an original Iveco Domino Ferrari Formula 1 driver’s coach that will hit the auction block on October 26 by RM Auctions.

What makes the Iveco coach even more special is that is was used by Scuderia Ferrari during the Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichelo era from 2001 to 2005. As befitting the seven times Formula 1 world champion, it was highly customized.

The Ghost of Chuck Norris Approves This Video [VW Polo Content]

Why did the Volkswagen Polo hatchback cross the road? [Insert joke/answer here]. But seriously now, we don't know.

What we can tell you is that we see is a sliver Polo 5d parked in what is probably a dealership (or perhaps a rental car office) seemingly somewhere in Europe and then, all of a sudden; the Polo begins to roll out the shop.

The German supermini drives through the entrance and falls down onto a busy road full of cars, and then, as if Chuck Norris a guardian angel was looking over the shoulders of anyone involved in this clip, the car goes straight through the traffic without causing any trouble.

POLL: Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, Which is the Most Beautiful of All?

The results of a collaborative project between two or more automotive partners can vary deeply, depending on how far the participating companies are willing to take the rebadging process.

For example, the differences between the original Fiat Doblo and GM's Opel Combo spinoff (a RAM variant will also be introduced in early 2013) are more or less limited to the design of their front bumpers.

The French PSA Peugeot Citroën group on the other hand, gave its designers a little more breathing room when it came to the development of its new compact SUVs / crossovers, the Peugeot 4008 and the Citroën C4 AIRCROSS.

Lil' Monster: Romeo Ferraris Fiat 500 Abarth Stradale Packs 300HP

The first photos of Romeo Ferraris Cinquone Stradale hit the web on Saturday giving us a taste of the limited production model.

We're still waiting for the Italians to share the full details but in a previous email, Romeo Ferraris told us that its over-the-top Fiat 500 Abarth will be an "extreme" street-legal version of its racing model powered by a highly modified 1.4-liter turbo engine delivering 300-horsepower.
